We're Hiring: Community Planner!

We are seeking a dedicated Community Planner  at all levels to support a  high-profile public sector agency  in  comprehensive planning, public space development, and land use initiatives . These roles offer a unique opportunity to shape  parks, open spaces, zoning policies, and sustainable growth strategies  that enhance communities and support economic resilience.

Key Responsibilities (Based on Experience Level):

  • Entry-Level Community Planners – Support research and policy development for land use, open space, and zoning studies. Assist in community engagement efforts and contribute to parks and neighborhood planning projects.
  • Mid-Level Community Planners – Conduct development reviews, coordinate planning efforts for parks, trails, and recreation facilities, and assess land use impacts. Work closely with stakeholders to shape comprehensive plans and policy recommendations.
  • Senior-Level Community Planners – Lead regional planning initiatives, manage zoning updates, and drive parks and community-centered growth strategies. Serve as a subject matter expert on land conservation, environmental planning, and sustainable community development.

Depending on Your Experience, Responsibilities May Include:

  • Developing and implementing community planning policies  related to land use, parks, and urban development.
  • Conducting research and data analysis  to support parkland preservation, zoning reforms, and regional planning strategies.
  • Reviewing development proposals  to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal zoning regulations.
  • Engaging with community stakeholders  to collect input and shape inclusive planning decisions.
  • Leading neighborhood planning projects , including sustainable infrastructure, park access expansion, and smart growth strategies.
  • Utilizing GIS, mapping tools, and planning software  to analyze land use trends and present findings.
  • Coordinating with local agencies and municipalities  on land development, urban revitalization, and zoning policies.
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and policy recommendations  for leadership, planning commissions, and community boards.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Education:  A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in  Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, or a related field .
Experience Levels:
  • Entry-Level:  Up to 3 years of experience in community or urban planning, park and open space development, or land use policy.
  • Mid-Level: 3-7 years of experience, with expertise in zoning, land use planning, parks and recreation development, and community revitalization.
  • Senior-Level: 7+ years of experience leading large-scale community planning projects, park planning initiatives, and policy development.
Technical & Policy Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of park planning, land conservation, environmental sustainability, and urban growth management.
  • Experience with zoning codes, land use regulations, and policy analysis.
  • Proficiency in GIS, urban design software, mapping tools, and spatial analysis.
Collaboration & Communication:
  • Ability to engage with government agencies, planning boards, and community organizations to support collaborative planning efforts.
  • Experience presenting findings, policy recommendations, and development proposals to stakeholders.
Project & Policy Development:
  • Ability to analyze community trends, assess infrastructure needs, and develop data-driven planning solutions.
  • Experience managing parks and community planning projects from concept to implementation.
